Question about using embroidery floss for tying quiltsa
For those of you who tie quilts and use embroidery floss how many strands of that floss do you use. Other than yarn, what other threads do you use. I am in the process of tying one and do not like the looks of the off-white crochet floss I am doing it with. Would like to do it with colors that match the fabric which is gold, tan, browns and various shades of each. Thank you so much for any help you can give me regarding this. I do not embroidery but know that it comes in many colors and not sure if those using it are using the floss for embroidery machines or that used for hand embroidery and even if there is a difference.

When I've helped others tie their quilts we used DMC embroidery floss, and all six strands. The DMC floss is used in hand embroidery and cross stitch as far as I know it is not used with machines. Hope this helps you.

You might want to test the colorfastness of the embroidery thread before you use it. Some of the reds can bleed profusely because of changes in how the color is set (mandated by law for safety purposes). If you find a bleeder, you can soak a skein of floss in Synthrapol or Retayne just as you would fabric.

I use the 6 strands of the skein and I pick a color of thread that goes with the quilt. In your case, I would pick between gold, tan and brown, but not all three, although I have used 2 different colors, and loved the quilt. The floss is for hand embroidery.
