If you had the chance to buy a Bernina with stitch regulator which one would you choose and why?

I actually passed on the 750 QE! I 'test drove' it and found the stitch regulator to be quite sluggish. I preferred using the machine without it engaged! I wouldn't call myself a great FMQ quilter, but passable (just, lol). I know quite a few people feel this way.

Thanks Knitette, I had seen a few demo's and some looked good and some not so good. Seemed like a lot of thread pile up at stopping points. I was not sure if it was machine or person doing the demo. I realize it takes practice (lots of practice) to accomplish anything well but was a little disappointed with end results shown.

​I have the Bernina 440 with stitch regulator and I do like it. I think the 440 's though have been replaced by the 500 series? I looked at the 700 and 800 and they were too expensive and complex for me.

I have a Bernina 1530 and that was at least 10 years before they came out with a stitch regulator. They didn't even have a 1/4" foot when I bought my machine !!!

I have the Bernina 830 and I do not use the stitch regulator. It is way too slow and I would rather just do FMQ. Save yourself the $1000.00 for fabric!!!!!

I have the 830 and love it for fmq -- it has lots of space to roll your quilt. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I have a Bernina 440QE with the BSR and have been able to FMQ after the usual learning curve. I do find the throat is tight if you want to do a larger quilt. I have purchased a 750QEE recently but it is still in the box waiting for my new sewing studio to be completed, hopefully by next month. It has built in embroidery while the 440 must be connected to my laptop for embroidery. I plan to keep the 440, it is a wonderful machine but the 750QEE has everything I could wish for, and it has the new large bobbin.

I have an 830 and use the BSR most of the time, but I use setting one, needle stops when you stop sewing. Number 2 setting will keep stitching in one spot when you stop moving (that's when you get bunches of thread in one place).

I have the Bernina 450 with Stitch Regulator. At first the BSR gave me the confidence to start doing FMQing but now I don't even use the BSR. Its a lot of money for confidence that I could have gotten just by practice. Like someone above said, skip the BSR and spend the money on fabric!
