Someone's fancy way of saying they sew right sides together, leave an opening and turn the quilt or pillowtop right sides out. I HATE THE TERM and will never use it on my own. The one "birthing' I watched on TV was so terribly cumbersome that I felt sorry for the person being taught.

I made some quilts for my granddogs and used the birthing method instead of binding them... Thought it would be better because you don't have to worry about anything getting caught in the binding and ripping it off.

Thanks for asking. I was wondering the same thing but I thought I just didn't know because of gaps in my vocabulary. Really interesting, will try that sometime.

I make quilts for Quilts for Kids and birthing quilts is not within their guidelines as far as I've seen. Everyone likes different techniques. I prefer to make the quilt the traditional way. I would check with the organization if you plan to do any charity quilts. Happy quilting!!

Years ago, I attempted to make make throws for the kids at Riley Hospital in Indy. Talk about walking the straight and narrow. Then when I was about half way done, they changed their requirements. That was when I decided my time could best be spent for someone local who'd appreciate my efforts without so many constraints. (could be intrepreted as I don't follow rules well!)

I hate the term too. It sounds kinda creepy to me. I say pillowcase style.
