Burlap is used alot with farm products. Has a very rough feel and a strong smell. Not suitable for clothes.
Monks cloth is a soft cotton even weave fabric. Local Wal-mart carries monks cloth.

I sure learned a lot today! :) I did not know burlap had chemicals on it. I just assumed it was used for farming, etc., People used to make their clothes with it. The burlap and Monk's cloth looked similar to me. Wow, @sewgull, I did not know Walmart sold it. I will look. I want to thank everyone for helping me understand the difference between the two fabrics. :)

I used Monks cloth yrs ago to make some throws & pillows. You can do beautiful weaving designs on it! Also used it for some placemats with frayed edging.

In Jr high we used burlap to do hook rugs on. Also made fabric lined Xmas stockings that had cross stich designs on. The burlap you find in the stores now don't have all the chemicals that the brown stuff that was used for farming bags did. Alot of ppl still use burlap to protect thier newly seeded lawns from birds.

Both come in several different colors now. Not everyone carries all the colors.
