    Default question for hand quilters

I seen some circular clips at the quilt show. where you roll up the quilt and clip several of these on. has anyone used these? do they work very well? my thought is that I'm working on a queen size quilt. would these help me not struggle with the weight of the quilt and make it smaller and more manageable?
    thanks for all your help.

I'm not sure what the clips are that you want info on, but it seems like I remember seeing elastic garters like you use on fitted sheets to keep them in place, being used to cope with all the "extra" quilt. I think you would need the stretch of elastic to hold bigger sized quilts. The large office clips might work also.

When I used to hand quilt (can't do it any more) I sat at a card table and rested my quilt on that because I used a 14 inch hoop and it worked well for me. I think when they use the round clips its for quilting on your sewing machine. Just my opinion.

I didn't like them because they didn't hold the fabric tight enough for me. Go get some spring clamps in the tools section at a big box store, harbor freight. I actually found mine at Big Lots. Much cheaper. Mine are plastic, small and easy to use. Just try to see how easy they are to use. Some of the metal ones have a real tight spring on them.

I believe the round clips are for machine quilting as well. I don't know that they would necessarily help with hand quilting. I would think it would make the quilt heavier to move as you have all the bulk in a smaller space. If you're looking to reduce weight, I would suggest thread basting vs pin basting that size. I really do find that makes a big difference in the weight of the quilt on larger ones.
