On a quilt as you go, you can add blocks together at any time. I usually make rows and then put rows together -- just like a "normal" quilt. Does this help??

If you're quilting as you're going, do you have to follow a set pattern? :?: would the design change somehow if you began in the middle and worked out instead of top to bottom, row by row? Or was that in cross stitch...? I'm confusing myself trying to figure it out (I'm still new to all the quilting terms :oops: )

Yes I do that sometimes. Sometimes I like the pattern, but its to small, so I just add boders, blocks what ever it takes to get where I want to be. :lol: It's part of the fun.

It just seemed top me that it would be easier to handle if you worked around a center block.

Are you starting with a central block or panel? If so than yes to your statement.

If I'm working on a medalion type quilt, I may start in the center, but even there I usually put a quilt together in rows, starting top to bottom or vice versa. Bethy
