Thanks to all! I thought it SHOULD work, but figured I'd adk the experts before giving it a try! Hope to have a completed project soon to show off. :)

Okay, I have a question..... I just accidentally bought a big box of permanent (not washable) glue sticks ... that's a no-no to use, right ladies?

I would be very cautious, it could work for some techniques. I would practice using it on scraps first.
Does it bleed through? Can you easily sew through it? :D:D:D

Well, I haven't tried it yet, Amma, because I'm a little "skeered"! Guess I'd better stop looking at the box and get sewing!

I just started to glue baste so I can practice FMQ. I bought Elmer's school glue that disappears when washed. I use it sparingly, tiny little dabs where I would have put a safety pin for basting. So far so good. I would like to try spray basting next. Have had no problems though with the glue.

I have used glue sticks (washable only) and Roxanne's glue baste -- the glue baste has a finer point to get into small places, but for a quick swipe the glue sticks work well. I generally buy the glue sticks at Costco. I have heard that keeping the glue sticks in the refrig preserves them --- especially if it hot. Since my sewing room is in the basement, I don't have to worry.

I use the Elmer's school glue sticks....the glue is purple, dries clear and washes out completely!.....love it for binding....and better yet, it's on sale now at walmart for $.40 per 2 stick package! I stocked up....LOL.
