Your insurance may not cover this loss, some higher end items like this need to be insured separately to be covered for electrical storms,fire,etc... :D:D:D
This is true! I may have to admit this is something else I started doing because of my involvement at QB. YOU GUYS ARE ALL GREAT!!!

I know I always pull the plug on my laptop when a storm hits and run on battery until it passes. I do always unplug my sewing machine when I'm done using it. We have a lot of pop-up t-storms in the summer. I guess I'll just have to keep a good supply of things to rotary cut when we have a storm.

It surely can't hurt to unplug, I usually try to remember to unplug the electronic machine and it can't hurt to wait to shower till the t-storm is gone ;)

If you have a local radio shack visit them for a high end surge protector. I paid $79 eahc for several about 3 years ago and it covers upto $50,000 towards damaged products. About a year later we have a bad surge. Lightning even rattled our windows and such. Protector on meter saved a/c and major things but surge still fried the flat screen and dvd. I had to send the power strip back for inspection but then was told I could replace with same TV, DVR and sent in receipts for repayment. In the lightning state you can't get enough help.

If you're going to spend thousands of dollars on a sewing machine, why wouldn't you do everything possible to protect that sewing machine? I absolutely unplug my sewing machine when a storm comes around. So what that it's an inconvenience, I know for sure my machine won't get fried in a storm!

I unplug my sewing machines, as well as any electronics I am not using including my computers nightly even if no storms. Had a supposed clear night not to long ago that turned into a nasty Thunderstorm at 1 am!
    Lost power on that storm.

My machines are too expensive not to unplug every nite. You can't be too careful. And I never sew and use the computor wrx. during a storm.
