    I am hand wuilting using fairfield 80/20, if I have about a 2 inch grid will that hold up to regular washing and drying? This quilt is for my son in the marines and it will not be treated gently.

    indeed it will. the package of batting with also let you know how close the quilting should be.

    don't pay attention to what the batting packag says. Use your gut to know ho close to quilt depending on how the quilt will be used. 2" sounds about right.
