Questions about Thread

I am getting ready to hand piece the blocks to "The Farmer's Wife", and was wondering if you have a favorite thread to piece with. I've heard that silk is lovely to work with. Is it?
I am also going to try my hand at hand-quilting. Again, is there a thread you prefer to use for your hand-quilting.
Thank you in advance.

I haven't personally worked with silk but do know it is very expensive and best used for hand applique or actual quilting. If you want a very fine thread you could use So Fine or Bottom Line. But I don't hand piece so I can't say how nice these would be to work with for hand piecing.

I use silk thread for appliqué. The stitches sink in the fabric and don't show at all. I'm not that great at the invisible part of invisible appliqué. There is a sale on this thread set now at my favorite online shop:

Clover and Superior Thread is now selling silk thread too. Beautiful colors.

I am doing the farmer's wife quilt and I am hand piecing it with connecting threads essential thread.
So far it has been good no complaints. I got the color taupe so it blends well with all my shades.
