Questions on labels
#1
How do you make a label? and do you put a label on a quilt that you are donating for a raffle? I know someone will know the answer. Thank you for once again coming to my rescue. Thanks Beth

I usually embroider mine.
I put who it's for and my name and date.
I usually hand sew it on once the quilt is done.
I have done them for charities and I just put a small label on the back with my initials and month/year

I also embroider the persons name "For David" the month and the year, then I sew on a label I got from Herschners that has my name of it, "Handmade by MOM" if I was donating just the month and year embroidered. Lacey

I make a miniture block from the quilt front and concect it to a piece of biege or white muslin or kona then frame the whole thing as if putting on a quilt border and angle it into the corner of the quilt on the back. I then use the white fabric area to write in the year, who it was made by and who it is to if I am giving it away as a gift. For the Day and Night Pattern by Eleanor Burns, for instance, there are pieces left over after cutting out the star and they make a mini star that I use one side to form a mini block.

I press a piece of freezer paper to fabric cut 8" x 10". On the computer I make a label using the font, etc. that I want and then put the freezer paper backed paper through the printer. I then hand embroider over my pattern. Oh, and I print the label the color of the embroidery thread I will be using.
It works for me.......

I embroider some and hand write some. Name of quilt, Name of person going to, my name, location and date. Charity quilts get my first name and date. But main difference for me, it seems, is that I make sure to QUILT THROUGH THE LABEL. In this way no one can steal the quilt and yes I have know of quilts that have been stolen. If the label is removed the quilting is ruined. Sometimes I also embroider directly onto the backing.
