Default Quilt for 7 year old grandson. Ideas??

I am just finishing a lap quilt for my 10 year old granddaughter so now I am trying to plan a small quilt for my 7 year old grandson. I have been looking at fabric with planets, stars and UFOs. I am hoping somebody on here can suggest a pattern I could use. I don't want it to be too childish so he can use it as he grows. Thanks in advance.

I did one with space fabric and I used the Warm Wishes free pattern. Turned out great.

A Turning Twenty or Yellow Brick Road pattern is very gender neutral. Using either of these patterns would allow plants, stars, and UFOs to be showcased and not be cut into unrecognizable prints.

I have seen some cute robot quilts that would go well with stars and space travel. You might also look for pieced spaceship patterns.

I bought some GI Joe fabric that is really making cute little boy quilts.. but I guess that depends on if he likes GI Joe or not

I sewed 6-1/2"strip of focus fabric (GI Joe) to a 1-1/2" strip of light fabric (I used white) then sewed a 2-1/2" darker fabric (I used red)

I made 5 of those sets and sewed them together - went together quick.

Here is a picture of the same pattern with From The Ground Up collection from Thousands of Bolts

Have you asked him what HE wants?

When I made a quilt for my nephew, I gathered pictures of all the quilts I wanted to make and put them in one file on my laptop. I had him look through that file and pick out the quilt he liked best, and I made it in the colors he wanted. Win-win!

I think the disappearing 9-patch would work well with the fabrics you mentioned.

Missouri Star has a tutorial for a skateboard quilt. It's easy to make.

Bento box or his fav color(s) in a log cabin. I made my son a sail boat block quilt. He picked out the sail colors! Good luck and don't forget to post a pic of the finished quilt!
