fo rme...it is just a toss up...most of the time I just prefer to use the extra wide baking so I can just go straight to the long arm. BUt sometimes I will peice the back with the leftover scraps from the quilt...which is nice because then I don't haev huge peices of scraps..and it is like having two quilts in one....or I will just use fabric from my stash that kind of matches my quilt...depends on the occasion.

It happens to me all the time, I was working on a block of the month, and didn't by the backing. Now I'm still looking for just the right fabric.

I buy queen size sheets from ValuVillage. They fit my quilts and I make sure they are never over used.

When I was doing a lot of handquilting for customers I picked up at least six yards of any good quality cotton fabric that was in the 50% off sale area. I have a decent colletion still. I also buy up any wide muslin that is on sale or where I can use a coupon. I have at least two good size boxes of various shades of white/offwhite etc. As a handquilter I prefer to piece the back as little as possible because it is just another seam to have to quilt through.

I just buy good used sheets that are in good shape for my backings, they work well for me,I don't worry about whether they will pill , for if they are on top a bed sheet
you want notice it anyways and if it does pill and it brothers you you can just take a cheap shaving razor and run it over it and no more pills..
