    I drew this up in EQ. The pale green background is an alternate way to piece if you don't fancy those set-in sections. The most common used points for drawing this star were the 6 and 9" points.

    Exactly and those sections of pieced diamonds don't have to be cut as diamonds, you can piece 2 strips of fabric and cut the width you need at a 45 degree angle. (One strip set for each color combo)
