Smile Quilt Disaster That Turned Out OK

I have this "special" quilt on my bed. It is special to me because it was a round robin I did a few years ago and then put the top away for four years. Then I spent 2 years (it is queen size) hand quilting it. Finally finished and looks awesome on my bed!

What's the disaster? My chihuahua decided to have her puppies on my bed. You can imagine what that quilt looked like after having 7 puppies born on it....yuck.

I figured it was ruined, but had to try to save it. I had some Clorox Fresh Care Stain Remover hanging around my laundry room, so I squirted plenty of that on the stain. Then I doused it liberally with Dawn dish washing liquid. Luckily she didn't move around much, so the stains were about 15" in a circle. Washed on cold water setting. This treatment got most of the stains out...but there were still a couple pretty ugly looking ones left. I applied the same solutions and washed again.

Yippie! This time I could not find even one stain! The quilt is saved! Dried in the dryer and back on my bed. I figure it is some kind of quilt miracle.

Our Dalmatian had 3 puppies before I woke up in our King sized water bed...Lucily she only made a mess on the sheet and pad. When I woke up she was licking one that she had pushed up against my leg. I put her in the box we had prepared and ended up with 12 pups.

Glad you got the stain out. Enjoy the puppies.

Really beautiful quilt, but now you've got me wanting to see ALL of it! Can you post a picture of it all?

It looks like she had a pretty nice little bed of her own but obviously she didn't want to get her bed messy! Glad you saved your masterpiece!
