sure- I do my best work in bed! not only designing but also working out problems- I trouble shoot constantly In my sleep- when I am trying something that just isn't working quite often I only need to sleep on it and in the morning I have figured out a solution- sometimes it's a design problem- sometimes a technique problem- often I think I do my best quilting in my sleep- then just put it into action when i'm in the sewing room.

I haven't really dreamed at night about quilting, but I have gone to bed thinking about it - can't sleep . If I have an idea that I want to try, I will then try to draw it or write it down and then I can go to sleep.

There are real reasons why this happens. When you are asleep, or just really at ease, the brain is relaxed and the 'clutter' and stresses of daily life are greatly reduced. As a result, solutions to problems are much clearer and creativity has much more open space to play.
You can use it to your advantage when you really hit a wall with something. It's why taking a break to do something totally relaxing often results in new ideas and resolutions to problems.

I have had dreams about quilting so realistic that I've awakened and looked on the floor for the needle I dreamt I was using and dropped. I have also solved problems while I was lying in bed falling asleep. It's an "aha" moment, but then you have to decide whether to get up and write it down or hope you remember it in the morning! :-)
