Thanks, I gave it to him today. He said he will let his wife decide, but wants to hang it on the wall instead of using it as a lap throw. I think that means he likes it?!??!

I took it to my paint group, and really loved the "WOW!" when I turned it around. The back is the same as the wide border, and doesn't look like much.

I just hope his wife likes it. He made another myrtle bowl this week, so now I get to choose between the original and the new one. I choose the new one -- so beautiful, and deeper.

We tried taking better pictures yesterday, here's one where you can see the borders and binding (kind of) I really need a new camera!

Taken in the sun. There are not really wrinkles in the border as appears here.

There is a male cardinal in there too. The pattern wanted three cardinals, I decided to make the bluebird for the middle.

This book has at least 12 bird pieced patterns:

I started out with a pattern in this book: backyard bird quilts, Jodie Davis, ISBN 10: 089589-178x 13: 978-0-89689-178-4

If so, you can still handquilt in the body and border.....Doesn't have to be tiny handquilting stitches.....what is called primitive quilting (larger stitches) is very popular and would look really cute on that quilt. You could do a very large meandor in the sky area....and maybe channeling on the border.....just a thought.....
I was worried about it when he said he might use it as a wall hanging. I have learned on this board that wall hangings need much more quilting for support.

My plan was to use as little quilting as possible to keep it soft and flexible as a lap throw.

He emailed last night that his wife loves it and put it on the bed in the guest bedroom. There is quilting around the green border, and quilting within 8" on all of everything on the quilt, much of it is hidden, like behind the flower petals for example. I told him I'll be here if it needs more. Thank you for your help!

Another cool thing, he was not doing his woodwork lathe work until we decided to make this exchange!

He is giving it to his wife. It's a laptop quilt. I hope she likes it!
She liked the quilt! This is how it looks in her guest room.
