I don't have my own embroidery machine (yet!) so I get mine done by QB member Sewnsewer2. She does a FABULOUS job! Easy to work with, sends mock ups, quick turn around and affordable! http://www.quiltingboard.com/members...er2-u3478.html

Sewnsewer2 makes all of mine. She does a beautiful job. Ditto for me what auntpiggylpn posted.

I hate sewing them on after the quilt is quilted. I have started monogramming them onto the back of the binding. It is a little labour intensive and you have to make sure to use some lightweight iron on in stablizer but I really like the effect.

I embroider my labels - either on the backing directly or a separate piece of fabric and sew it on. Sometimes I quilt over the label - sometimes not. When I've used Minkey backing, I typically will embroider the label info on the binding prior to sewing it on.

I usually make mine from a block that is in the quilt or elements of the fabric used in the quilt. Embroidery on my machine is a very basic block alphabet. I have used that on a few but usually I like to hand embroider them or write them with a micron pigma pen. I have also bought the preprinted labels that have a border design printed on them and write or embroider my info in those.

Edited to add that I have always appliqued my label on after I have completed it. It is the last thing I do before I call a quilt done.

I am hit or miss with my labels. Sometimes I do and sometimes I am in too big of a hurry to fool around with it. I also use my embroidery machine to stitch it out. My favorite way to put them on is to fold them into a triangle and attach it into a corner as I sew on the binding. This way two edges of the binding catch the label into the corner and it is there attached very strongly. Then it is a matter of just ladder stitching the loose folded edge of the label onto the backing. Done!

I make my own. I don't make a big production out of it. Just a simple corner piece, attached when I bind.

I cross stitch all my labels. I use graph paper to create the lettering and figure out line lengths and line spacing. After stitching the lettering in a color that complements the quilt and that is dark enough to read, I add a 1/2" fabric border using scraps from the top and hand stitch it to the back.

My friend types her label text on the computer in a font she likes, prints it, tapes it to a light box and traces the wording onto a piece of white or off-white muslin using an ultra fine point permanent marking pen.

There are lots of ways to create labels and you have to find your preference; the important thing is to label the quilt so others know who made it, for whom it was made, when it was made, etc. Too easy to forget those facts as time marches on.

I make mine, but don't always label every quilt. I should. My labels consist of teeny tiny 16 patches and my name and date. I know it's probably not enough info, but I want the quilt to be about the recipient, not me. On Grad quilts for my nephews, I used my embroidery machine and included a bible verse, their names, and occasion. For my youngest DD, I used the lettering on my sewing machine to put a verse on the binding. It's very subtle, and you really have to know to look for it.

I have made them by printing with inkjet printer, drawing a border design and then lettering with permanent pens, used pre-printed fabric labels, and simply written on a plain piece of fabric and sewed it on. There are so many easy ways to get a label on and it is important that in the future someone knows who made that quilt and why.
