    Default Quilt magazine?

I'm looking at subscribing to a quilt magazine. My skills are pretty basic.

Any recommendations or ones that I should stay away from?

    Thanks--

I wondered about that too. My thought is to subscribe for a year to have resources all in one spot.

    Thanks ladies-

fons and porter is a good one too but check out half price books for recycled issues. They have lots of good ones at ours.

I keep my membership with Quilter's Club of America they have a lot of free patterns online and also you have free access to QNNTV with their membership and you can get a card for 10% off at Joanne's. Last time I renewed it was $29. including their mag, online service and Easy quilts. I have let my others all go because after a while where do you put the stuff and like everyone said today there seems to be unending free patterns and it seems like what you see on her is so gorgeous and you have to make every pattern you see I have a long list of want to do. Good Luck. Sue

I don't know about subscribing ---- I tend to like to browse the quilt magazines. For skill improvements I tend to lean towards McCalls and Fons and Porter. For Inspiration and eye candy I go for Fabric trends, Quilt Trends, Quilt Artist, and Quilters Newsletters. And I pick up ones that I enjoy looking at such as Australian Patchwork and Quilting! tHAT IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE INSPIRATION MAGAZINE THAT WHEN i SIT DOWN SERIOUSLY WITH IT USUALLY HAS A FEW PROJECTS THAT HELP IMPROVE MY SKILLS. --oOoooPS, somehow hit the cap lock here but that magazine is worth shouting about! LOL I even buy the two or three issues that have all of a project just to drool over the skills showcased.

you should 'browse' the magazines available on the magazine shelves at the grocery store- and pick up one or two that appeals to you- take them home and check them out-see if they offer patterns/articles that you like/use- then next time check out a couple different ones- and choose the one or two you constantly find yourself (gravitating to)
each of us are different and have different likes/dislikes when it comes to magazines- you have to choose yourself-
i don't think anyone should say 'stay away from this one' because it may just be the one YOU love!
in the past i've subscribed to 'Fon's & Porters Love of Quilting' , Quilter's Home, Quilt Sampler, Quilter's Newsletter, McCall's Quilting, Fabric Trends, Quiltmaker, American Quilter, The Quilt Magazine...
see there are lots of great quilting magazines- there are many i've never subscribed to-
i don't subscribe to any anylonger simply because i found that they would stack up and i may not even look at them anymore- so last year i went ahead and let my subscriptions start to expire (and no i didn't get all of these at once- )
now i still stop by the mag shelves when i grocery shop to see what's new-and if something catches my eye i buy it- but i am not accumilating dozens of mags i don't do anything with- since i seldom ever make a quilt from a magazine- --
so, spend some time checking out the ones around- and then choose one or two you really like....don't worry about what ones i like- i'm pretty...A.D.D & O.C.D rolled into one

I recently cancelled all of my subscriptions because I had too many duplicates. If you want a good overall magazine with variety, then I'd suggest looking at Homes and Gardens Quiltmaking (at least I think that's what it's called). I do not like the new format of Quilter's Newsletter. Check out the ones available at the book store and browse to see what you like. If you end up with more than one, check that they are not by the same publisher - that's how I ended up with the duplicates.
