Does anyone have a suggestion for a quilt pattern suitable for a man? Any ideas would be appreciated.

D9P, rail fence, log cabin, rag quilt... There are a lot that would look great, I think it is as much the fabric as the design, IMHO :D:D:D

Are you suggesting dark fabrics or plaids?

Log Cabin sounds good to me too. Pick deep rich colors. He will love it.

I made one for my husband once using his old button down shirts... he liked that really well. I've seen them done with 9 patch variations, or in a log cabin pattern...

I'm finishing up a log cabin quilt top for DH this week. I'm using recycled plaid and striped shirts for the lights and civil war reproduction prints (non-floral) for the darks. It's been really fun to make, and is turning out gorgeous. His Dad passed away recently; my MIL gave me two of his shirts to use.

I made this one for my Dad last year. Blue is his favorite color. You can make just about any pattern.

I have used Louisana from Quilterscache for a man. Colors you choose will really be the determination.
