You could put tulle on top if you don't want to quilt it. Tulle comes in many colors and some will deaden your colors and some will enhance them and some will just not make any difference, so you would need to try a lot of colors to find what works. Fortunately, it's very cheap. I bought a yard of about a dozen different colors and try them out--I usually can find one that has the effect I like.
