Default To Quilt or Not to Quiilt? That's the question

Without showing my collage premature I'm in a dilemma. Do I quilt a collage that will be mounted on a canvas frame or not? If I do quilt it I'm using a thin bat with invisible thread. Thoughts, suggestions and pics of those who have and have not quilted a collage wall art.

    Thanks
    Joyce

If you want to add quilted texture, then quilt it. If not, then just stretch it on the canvas.

I think it would depend on how the collage is put together. If it is glued or stuck together with a product like Wonder Under, I would be worried that some of the pieces would eventually work their way loose. MaryKatherine on this board, does a lot of fantastic fiber art and collage. Why don't you reach out to her for an expert opinion.

I’m with Ginger...I have not yet done a collage (I’m taking a class in April) but I think rryder (Rob) also does a lot of art quilts.

Yes, I quilt them even if I'm mounting them since I like the texture. Depending on what you used for glue, it may or may not hold up over time if you choose not to quilt them.

Susan Carlson has a video on mounting collages and talks about different ideas and techniques. Have a look for that.

    Looking forward to your piece.
