This is what I think, too.

While I admire fancy fancy quilting (and can't do it) - sometimes less IS better and more appropriate.

When you quilt them with a matching thread you will be seeing texture but the quilting won't be as "in your face" as with your drawn lines. I would quilt the sashing, but perhaps with an organic design more like one side of a fern leaf.

Ditto! I would also just stitch in the ditch for the sashing. Brings a bit of calm back to the quilt and brings the eye's focus onto your beautiful feathers!

Yes, I agree. Keep it simple and don't detract from the other quilting you've done.

Love your fabrics in this shadow box design. I would leave the sashing plain or just SID so as not to detract from the geometric 3D look.

What BrendaK and several others said. SID then leave it alone. It's a wonderful quilt with great depth and great for a man. Also, since you are so ready to be done with it, be done with it especially since the receiver won't care or notice. And yes, you did do a great job on it.

It's part of the quilt, quilt it. You don't have to put a lot in it but make it similar in density to what you do in the blocks. Simple is sometimes best.

I agree. I think just stitch in the ditch in the sashing, you already have the feathers. Too much quilting may spoil the overall look.
    Love the quilt.

I agree with the others, stitch in the ditch to anchor the sashing and then let the optical illusion shine through!
