I live in New Brunswick which is about an hour on a fine day from Amqui. Here is the information on the Guild in Edmonston, NB. It looks like it is a bilingual (fr/eng) group.

If there are no guild groups in Amqui then this is an alternative.

You are very right-forgive me. I thought Amqui was on the TransCanada but it is not. However, if you ever get to Moncton there are 2 good quilt shops here and 2 more across the border in Nova Scotia. Amqui is isolated and I have no idea if there are shops there. Good luck...Bonne Chance.

The biggest town in the area is Rimouski; still, it's a few hour away and I doubt you'll find anything better than a Fabricville (Quebec equivalent for Joann).
You may try to look for a local branch of an association call "cercle des fermières" (farmer's wife association). Some years ago, these associations were very active in rural area. Quilting was a part of their activities, in addition with sewing and cooking. My only french quilting book was made by them in the 80's. They are less active these days in big urban area but not in remote area.
The non popularity of quilting in the french canadian area is quite a mystery for me. My grand mother was a quilter: I still have the double wedding ring quilt she made for my mother. But she was living in the Eastern township, a part of the province where British Loyalist came to live after the Independance war in the US, still very english speaking these days. It looks like the quilting tradition was lost in a generation. Many people from my grand mother generation (she would be 80) where quilting, but not at all from my mother generation (she in 60). So for my generation (40) it's a completely lost art. There was a big amelioration of the wealtiness in the 70s, so maybe for my mother generation, quilting was regarded only as a way to recycle fabric, something they were not interested anymore into doing now they were able to buy things.
