I made a black and white quilt with a touch of red for my son about 4 years ago and he absolutely loved it.

Turning Twenty might work with the right fabric choice.

For my son for Christmas I am making a rag quilt using squares from old denim jeans on one side with red plaid flannel squares on the back. I will try to post pictures when I finish.

I think that the one that bj has as her avatar would look awesome as a black and white quilt. and you could use grey where she used green and maybe throw in some red too. any of the star blocks or variations of the star blocks would be good. or even the hunters star would work. or even a mariners compass or one of the hundreds of variations of that would work. kinda go by what your son is interested in. Debbie Mumm has some really cool outdoors fabric that isn't child like at all. but that is if he is outdoorsy. that you could do nine patches or four patches with larger squares of fussy cut fabric in between. this is probably getting more confusing. hehe sorry

    Here's some ideas:

I vote for a Log Cabin with a red center. Best pattern I've seen so far is Quilt in a Day Log Cabin by Eleanor Burns. Goes together real fast.

Disappearing 9 Patch is also another good one. Or Split Rail Fence.

I try not to use flowers for guys, animal fabrics are good if you can find his favorite animal. The white and black sounds good also.
