I have a huge entertainment unit in my family room now that we are converting to a quilting room and that huge old thing will store quilt tops and backing. If you want it to be open, just remove the doors. I like the doors on mine, though there is an open space that I do fill. I just make sure nothing is in sunlight.
I am doing the same thing, but I am leaving the glass doors on so I can see the pretties, but my kitties can't use them for a bed. Lol!

I use the top to feed the cats since that is the only thing Eli can't reach. I just had to add creative stairs for the old man, Bruno, to get up there.

I used an old mahogany wardrobe...it's an antique so I didn't want to nail through it, so we just made shelves that sit inside..it is absolutely perfect for my fabric on comic book boards..keeps them sorted nicely, and I can open both doors and get a good look at everything..and the sun can't get in to fade them!

i collected metal shelving units--free ones---and used contact shelf paper on the shelves. i have 4 of them in my sewing room, and i use sheets for 'doors'. the best this old lady could do, by herself. hubby has other projects all the time... works fine for me.

I purchased a china cabinet at goodwill for yardage. It has glass shelves. I made the big ironing board on top of a dresser I found at a garage sale. It holds precuts and LOTS of fat quarters. I love both!

    Sorry about the sideway pics.

Love your glass etching on the shorter cabinet. Looks like apple core templates. Did you do that or that original?

The he cabinet that looks "etched" looks more like tin to me, like one of the old pie safes.

It is tin. It is a replica pie safe. Hubby bought it for me to hold patterns, books and magazines. It was a kit. I love it.

macdaniel1023 - I enjoyed seeing your pictures of your storage units and what a tidy sewing space you have. It must be a joy to sew in there. Thank you and everyone for sharing ideas.
