I pieced a quilt top and made a duvet cover out of it. I quilted the top to a piece of flannel and then just made the duvet cover out of it. It worked really well. We used that cover up until this year. I have dogs that sleep with us so it went thru many washings.

Have been thinking about making one myself. I would love it if you would post a picture when it's done. There is no reason why it shouldn't be great.

I have bought a commercially made duvet cover which has been quilted on the top and l insert my duvet into it. Now because l put a sheet in between the duvet cover and the bottom sheet l don’t need to change and wash the cover so often. Actually l have two in different colours and l change them over when l wash one. They something like a Muslin only maybe a fraction thicker. They quilted only straight lines across(with a bit of a pattern through it) but essentially straight across about just over 1/4 inch apart which has made the material pucker somewhat but it gives a lot of stability and thickness to the cover as it is only two thin layers. It closes at the end with buttons and is lined on the other side with another sheet like lining. I love it and suggest you to try it. Good luck.

I’ve made a few Duvet covers with quilts. They are lovely. No reason not to go ahead. I have friends & family who prefer their down comforters and love their quilted covers. I used a lightweight batting & muslin backing then quilted the top then constructed the duvet.

I've made two duvet "quilts". The first was a wonky log cabin on muslin backing. Good thing it's on a twin down comforter because it's VERY heavy. The back is six large log cabins.
The second I made just recently. It's made of 12 inch square Kaffe fabrics with a 1/2" black sashings and wide Kaffe backing. No quilting at all. It's on a king size down comforter. It ended up in our RV cause hubby liked it so much. We spend half our time in the RV so that's OK. Now to make something else for our bed at home.

I made a duvet cover for my sister's down comforter-it was easy, I didn't even quilt ti. Just made the top sewed it to the backing on three sides, then made a lining out of muslin the same way and sewed then together, like a huge pillowcase. I put buttons and buttonholes on the top edge, with buttonholes in the top edge of the duvet too

Makes good sense to me. Many folks have down comforters on their beds and this would be perfect for a covering.

I am going for it! I have most of a top done already. Just need to add borders to get to the right size. I collected lots of oranges over the years with the thought to make something for myself. Orange is my favorite color.

This summer, I made a bunch of blocks from a moda cake mix with some of the oranges with no real plan for a project. This is a perfect project for them. I am eager now and will definitely post pictures.
