Thread Heaven is a great product. It really helps the thread move through the layers more easily and prevents the thread from wearing. The less friction, the less pull on the batting. Hope you can find a combination of any of these suggestions that solves your dilemma.

When I hand quilt, I use a latex finger cot on the finger that grips the needle to pull it through the layers. Once in a while, I have noticed bits of fuzz that bothered me. I find that lightly rubbing the surface with the finger cot finger "collects" the fuzz.
