Thanks so much everyone for your input.
I'll be heading to the AQS show in August (MI) and will look for the rules and the mat. Unfortunately Quilter's Select is not listed on the vendors list.

For "squaring up" rulers, I would get the ones that end with "1/2" - such as the 8-1/2" square - because many "unfinished" block sizes end with "1/2"
Too bad a 9-1/2 x 9-1/2 one is not listed in the options. I would get that one before an 8-1/2 ruler - because a lot of 9-patch type blocks (3x3 grid blocks) end up being 9 inch finished size.
a 12-1/2 square is also useful because many unfinished blocks are that size.
For "cutting little pieces" - such as scrap into squares or rectangles - I like the 4x8 omnigrid ruler with the 1/8 inch grid. (Not on your list, but I use that ruler a LOT!)
3 x 18 is also useful for cutting strips in general, and especially binding strips. (CG has a 3-1/2 x 18-1/2)

I have every one of them!! These are the ABSOLUTE BEST rulers! Unlike Creative Grids that advertises no slip, and does slip - these Quilters Select rulers have a special coating on the back and they absolutely DO NOT slip..........If you can find them, get them!!

I have five sizes, all without the 1/2", and absolutely love them. But then I really didn't like the 1/2" extra on two sides of a ruler, as I had to mark the 1" x 1" corner to make sure I wasn't turning it wrong. The even inch ones can be used from any direction. I know it's what we get used to .
The non-slip feature has been great for the 4-H'ers I work with.

Example: If most of my blocks "finished size" were 6 inches, I would get the 8 inch square ruler.
The only rulers I've had to "think hard" when using with the extra 1/2 inch were the Creative Grids rulers.
There is something about them that makes my brain uncooperative when using them.
