Quilter's Select Rulers 8X8 or 8.5X8.5 6X6 or 6.5x6.5
I was looking at Quilter's Select rules the other day. The is a 6X24 that looks really handy. (They do work on Olfa mats by the way.) I was looking at the other available sizes and have a question. I can see where a 6.5 or 8.5 ruler would help in squaring a block. (Measure, center, turn and cut, turn and cut etc). When would you use a 6 or 8 inch square?
Is there any other size you could see as handy (and not redundant) if you had the 6X24.
Thanks,
j.

The ruler I use the most is my 3 X 18. The next square I use the most is my big 15 X 15. I do own a 6 X 24 but find it awkward to work with. I might like it better if I had the suction cup handle on it.

I use my 6x24 and my 6x12 the most. For your decision making determine what size blocks you make most often and need to square up. I have 2 Quilter's Select self healing cutting mats to cover my cutting table and I love them!! I am left handed and they are numbered both ways so I am not counting down from 36 anymore. I also love the light and dark gray reversible sides, will never use another brand again. They didn't stink when I first got them either, as some other brands seem to.

I have all sizes of the Quilter's Select. I rarely reach for my old basic rulers anymore. I bought the 8" square first and liked it so much I bought the other sizes when I was in Paducah. 30% off at the booth. I am waiting on the 8 x 24 size, until then I'll use my Creative Grid one. I love the mat too. Best I have ever used. The best prices are at the Quilt Show website.

I use the 8 x 8 for squaring up small blocks and for cutting, I also have a 6 x 12, 6 x 24, 6 x 6, 8 x 8, 4 x 4, 2 1/2 x 2 1/2,12 1/2 x 12 1/2, and a few more I can't find. I found each one had a place in my sewing room.

The ruler is use most is 2 1/2 x 18. 6, 6 1/2, 7, 7 1/4(used for flying geese and 5 1/4 for FG) 8 1/2, 9, 9/12, 10, 12. A lot of the rulers I use for specific patterns especially 6 and 6 1/2 for HST. Some of these sizes, I had cut out at a glass shop from plexiglas. I usually fold my fabric WOF twice to cut so I find the 24 inch rulers difficult to use.

I use a 6 x 24, June Taylor Strip Cutter, I can cut strips/blocks up to 12 x 12. I have a 2-12 x 24 I seldom use. A 9 x 9 square and when I want to cut strips over 6" I use a 8-1/2 x 24, then I cut squares whatever size I need. I also have a triangle, a couple of small square rulers. When I need a certain size I want to have right there. Since 2002, I make one quilt after another.

I use my 8 1/2 by 24 ruler a lot. then the 8x8 and 6x6. finally found a new 9 1/2 inch square one not too long ago. i used to do 9 inch blocks in swaps online and for awhile I couldn't replace it.
