When I took my FMQ class we were taught on both sides of the quilt. Our teacher explained that sometimes the backing fabric was a great way to quilt by following the lines on a print background. We each had a sample sandwich with a floral print on it and we quilted around the flowers on the print. Worked great. I suggest using a sample sandwich first to see if it works for you.
