Check local Library for Books Too... to get some ideas, allpeoplequilt.com. Start with small projects like Pot holders, table toppers or Runners or other small Quilting patterns like tote bags etc..

Check with your library to find if they have a Book Sale periodically. Our local one was this weekend. I found six quilting and applique books for $6. They were in great shape and had a retail value of over $100. If you learn from them, great. If not, donate them back to the library for their next sale. A great way to increase your book stash!

Just a warning. I enjoy using Quilter's Cache andI've made lots of quilts from this site. BUT (there's always a but) the instructions for the last two blocks I've use from there have been wrong. Really wrong. The block had you use 3 different colors but only gave instructions for 2 of the colors. It was easy to figure out the size you needed for that 3rd color but I did have a friend (newer quilter) that was really confuse. Just a warning.

One of my favorite books and one of the first purchased is ' Quick and Easy Quilt Making' by That Patchwork Place. It taught me how to perfectly cut, piece ,sew , many traditional blocks and patterns. I swear these women were ahead of their time. The patterns are gorgeous! This book was written in 1993 and has 26 projects by Mary Hickey, Nancy J. Martin , Marsha McCloskey & Sara Nephew. It is and always will be 'my-go-to-book.' Just because it was written in 1993, there are cutting diagrams that are precise i.e. half square triangles that are the right size and not warped and already pressed! These ways are used by the master quilt makers of today.
