What wonderful memories, I sit with tears in my eyes reading. This reminds me of my own Mother and her sister and how they loved to quilt together and visit. They would spend hours doing just that, it seemed they never tired of quilting and being together. My own sister has a machine quilting business and when we are together we do the same. Usually with me on the quilting machine and her putting on the bindings or dealing with customers. I only get to use the Gammill when I am visiting so I try not to let her touch it when I am there, unless she has a special order that I do not feel comfortable with. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

When My kids were small my husband made a quilting frame like that and hung from the living room ceiling. The Whole family would set in the evenigng after school and work and quilt by winter we all had a new quilt for our bed my oldest son had a Mickey Mouse quilt and it finally totally wore out last year he was 40 and we make it when he was 8 His wife said she threw it away when he was on a fishing trip

OMG, how could that person have done that without asking her husband? It amazes me that there are people in this world who see no value, financial or sentimental, in quilts. My own daughter-in-law asked me to repair a quilt a few years ago. When I saw the quilt and realized it was handmade, I asked what had happened? She let the cats sleep on it who then ripped it in certain spots. I said I would try to mend it, but she had to promise me she would keep the cats off...and maybe let my grandson use it! Do not lose faith or hope. Keep on quilting! :D

never fortunate enough to know any grandparents as my parents were in their 40's and 50's when they adopted me. They were wonderful parents though.

Quilt Mom

Perhaps it is time for a new one. Sorry she felt the need to get rid of it, though.

My brother's wife sees no need for quilts. So, lucky me, Mom gave me the quilt she had made for him. He used it as long as he was home, prior to getting married. It is one of three she saved and gave to me.

Thank you for the warm memories. I'm freezing and could feel the fire and smell the wood burning. I felt the softness of the fabric and all the hand stitching.
I loved the journey and was sad for momo when aunt bernice passed away. I'm glad momo kept quilting though.
It would be awesome to have a quilting frame like that, and somebody to share with:-D

Those are wonderful memories! I can remember my grandmother and her sister sitting around that quilting frame and stitching together. I also create memories with my own quilting sister when I go to visit...and it's usually me who does the binding if she has a quilt completed that far. I've also done bindings for friends of my sister's, because I like the calming effect of the handwork...It's gotten me the nickname "The Binding Queen"!
