I have heard that it is best to quilt with the Minky on the top.

You could have a burr on the needle. That could make the minkee migrate up...

I have a love - hate relationship with Minky! I love how soft it is. I hate the mess it makes when you cut it. I don't think I would be brave enough to put it on my quilt frame. I had enough trouble just sewing it for scarves last Christmas. It wouldn't feed and I had to pull it through the machine. Oh, and did I mention the mess it makes??? Never again.

I was using a 40wt cotton thread and still had an issue. I think if anything you would have had better luck with a 50wt as it is a finer thread. I would try a poly thread. When I did my research I did have many other LA quilters respond that they used poly as the minkee fibers tend to want to stick to the cotton. Good luck with it! I have sworn off.

I just finished a baby quilt with Minky backing. My LAQ recommends I use W&N batting with the minky. She said she has no problem quilting Minky with W&N and it prevents the Minky from coming through to the front fabric. I've made 3 quilts now with Minky backing and none have had any problems (one has been washed too).
