    This is the pattern: http://www.jedicraftgirl.com/2016/12...t-pattern.html

Some do require that extra precision. You could always make a test
    block first.

Like others, I favor the Magic 8 method of making HSTs (HSTs being what the 7/8" thing is about). I also learned (the hard way) to oversize them slightly.

While I haven't tried it yet, I found this alternate HST tutorial online: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A91W0tUTFyg. Has anyone tried it? If so, how well did it work?

Hi ya...you (everyone) need to get one of these rulers:
    https://www.amazon.com/Creative-Grid...e+grids+rulers

It IS a lifesaver - I've had one for many years and have used it regularly. It is so easy to use.

The 3-7/8" can work if your seam allowance is perfect. I prefer to cut mine 4", draw a line diagonally from corner to corner, then sew 1/4" on each side of the line. Most blocks then end u[ a tad big so each HSQ needs ro be terimmed to size.

I hate "7/8 ths" and always cut up and trim down!

I am not sure that I could do the 7/8" pattern either.
