Quilting Pet Peeve

Me, too. Also hate the mistakes I make when I try to cut out late at night. And how about the machine which never gives you any trouble until you have a nice block of time to sew and then the thread breaks, the bobbin case keeps catching threads and, in general, all of that lovely time which you were going to sew disappears.

My family used to use my sewing scissors if they were the closest to whatever they needed to cut. NOW my fabric scissors have FABRIC in bold black lettering with a permanent marker. The kitchen scissors say KITCHEN and the paper scissors say PAPER.

After my $50 scissors (a gift from my MIL) were used to cut a pin (yes, a pin! Left a nice nick in the blade), I bought a lockbox that was designed to store cash in. I put my fabric scissors, rotary cutters, and blades in it and kept the key on my keychain! When the kids or husband would say "I can't find my scissors. Can I have the key to your scissor box?" I just said "No". LOL! They learned. Now the kids are all gone so I leave scissors around. Of course, now I seem to misplace them myself! Maybe there were more advantages to that lockbox than was originally thought ...

I just did this and I had part of the block put together. I didn't want to take the block apart. I went to 3 different stores to get this fabric (civil war fab) and then finally at the 4th one found one the I could substitute enough that it won't stand out as being different. I get new fabric each month for the BOM but after 2 yrs of doing them I'm now trying to use my scraps and save the larger pieces.

I tell them I am not that kind of seamstress. I hate taking things apart and will only do it for someone in my immediate family.

relatives or friends asking for help to make something usually a quilt and then expecting it to be finished and waiting for them after one 30 minute visit two months ago. to me help does not mean them bringing fabric and then cutting mine and leaving me to make the quilt!!
