I recently began to teach my sister to quilt. She is a person that has never had much confidence and has finally gotten her own home with her love she has been with for over 20 years. Her and her man both have an extra room for themselves and it didn't take long to convince her to finally set it up as a quilt/craft room for herself. When she began to quilt I wanted to write a poem for her to share my love of quilting.
    Here it is:

A Quilter’s Wish for My Sis

This quilter’s wish, is for you sis
A wish with love and pure bliss
A wish I want for you to keep
To feel the love of quilting you will reap

I want to give you the gift it conveys
The love and excitement, in so many ways
The pride you’ll get from sewing each swatch
Mixing color, textures and how you’ll watch

As colors mix and shapes are made
As blocks are built when the shapes are laid
In long rows and wild shapes
    Flowers, monkeys and even grapes

    Victorian, Crazy, Sunbonnet Sue
Each quilt choice you make, will define You
Your tastes and love of different styles
Yards of fabric, miles and miles

Your first piece of fabric, is sure to excite
The creative juices, you will feel tonight
As you find your fabric tastes are there
You’ll gain more excitement than you can bear

Blues and Yellows, Greens and Browns
We will explore so many towns
    Searching for the newest trends
Old and new patterns as the road bends

Pinks and Purples, Whites and Reds
We’ll make quilts for so many beds
    Fruits and Berries, Butterflies too
Designs in fabric will speak to you

And so I say to you at this time
Go and buy fabric with every dime
Mark will still love you, of that I am sure
When you present him with a quilt so pure

A quilt you’ll make with your own two hands
With a quilt of love and pride you will stand
Confident, Proud and Happy I am certain
To give the love to someone that is hurtin

Now you know the importance of a quilt
A gift of love to give without guilt
A safety blanket when all seems lost
A give of love for a new house

For a new baby, a birthday too
There are so many reasons to quilt for you
A marriage, a graduation, a happy new day
For someone just to feel good is the way

The reasons are many, sometimes just because
To quilt for another so they can feel loved
To keep yourself busy, your mind active too
To make you happy and to NOT feel blue

The reasons for quilting are so many
Never feel guilty for spending your pennies
Enjoy yourself and find yourself too
I love you so much and I am so happy for you
    - Love from Cherbear

Please share your quilt poems here too!

Thanks Kreinhart. It was so fast and easy to write as I was feeling all of it at the same time when she was learning to quilt. It just poured out of me.

The funny part is she is learning how to build her stash quickly. We are taking those road trips and going on excursions and she is really developing her style quickly. It is so much fun to teach someone to quilt.

I just got a call from my sister and her daughter who are happily quilting in her new room. Ahhhh ... my heart is smiling. She has something she loves that makes her so happy now and a chance for her daughter who is older and her to share. Life is good.
