I keep seeing beautiful fabrics in polished cotton. When I looked it up on line - it sounded like it needed to be dry cleaned.

Can you make quilts using polished cotton? Do you have to do anything different when sewing with it?

It can be laundered, but repeated washings will remove the 'polished' look. It's not a coating, but the process used to finish the fabric at the mill. If the item will not be laundered a lot, or if you don't care that the finish will eventually soften, then go ahead.

It's used a lot for whole cloth quilts.

In the "old days" when I was making clothes, cotton sateen usually was a softer fabric. The polished cotton was stiffer.

I have used this for backing. I prewash it and it has a wonderful soft, slightly aged look that I love. It works well on the LAM too.
