I make functional quilts that will be used and loved. I am a compulsive crafter/quilter and have always been. I am also one of those that needs to do something for my sanity, so it definitely meets a need in me. Whom I am making the quilt for is important for me. I get great satisfaction knowing the quilts I made are well loved. I also feel a sense that hopefully some of these quilts will outlive me. Anything else I do in life seems so temporary. So I am hoping some quilts will be around for my great grand children. I also enjoy teaching my children or others to quilt. Making donation quilts is also very important to me. I am a busy mama and I can do something even if it is in the middle of the night to give to others.

It allows me to be creative, it also relaxes me. My quilts will never be show or museum quality. They are made with love. I have one on my bed and make them for family.

I quilt because it's fun, but mostly I like to think about how much comfort and sense of being cared about a quilt will bring to someone else. On the news just last night we saw a report of victims of an awful apartment house fire, out in the cold with all their possessions lost, and I turned to my DH and said, "They look like they could use a quilt". Obviously they need a lot more than a quilt now, but they surely could use some comforting too.

I almost never know what I'm going to do with a quilt when I start it. Sometimes people see it and want it so I give it to them. Sometimes it's for a gift. Most of the time I make it because I want to make it. Just for the fun of it.

I make mine to be used. I just want the recipient to snuggle in and feel the love I put into it.

I'm relatively new to quilting (4 years) and have yet to finish a quilt for myself. So far I've done baby quilts for friends/relatives, a house warming quilt, a few table runners as gifts, several bargello wall hangings (all through a class) and a slew of UFO's. My original draw to quilting wasn't to make something for myself, just to create. I'm an art major turned accountant and I was lacking creativity in my life - quilting is a good outlet.

I do it just so that the people I love can wrap themselves in warmth and be reminded that they are loved every day.

Lol@ quilt shows. I'll leave that to the pros, who have my undying respect.
