Try a Topstitch 90/14 needle. They are the ones recommended in our ruler class that I am taking tomorrow. Hope that helps!

I've pretty much given up on the ruler foot on my machine. If I have the foot high enough to go over seams, I get skipped stitches. If I lower, I don't get the skipped stitches, but I can't go over seams. I can't wait until someone markets a ruler foot with a spring that will self adjust over seams!

Thanks for all the help. I tried polyester thread. That seems to work but I am having a problem with tension using it. Hopefully I can get out this week and buy some Topstitch needles. I am bound and determined to master this!

Do you use the same thread in the bobbin?

How does it do just free motion quilting? I have not used a ruler foot ever, so I don't know about that. I did have problems once FMQing with the thread and it was driving me crazy. My friend who a Bernina tech person looked at my bobbin hook and it had a small little bur or something that she filed away. Happily I was able to fmq again without a problem.

Yes, I use the same thread top and bottom. I find that I have to tighten both tensions -- top and bobbin-- when I use polyester thread.

I use the topstitch needles, too -- size 90 or 100.

Thanks, quiltedsunshine. I ordered topstitch needles and poly thread. Should be here by tomorrow night. Then I can start playing again, hopefully without the frustration.

Try some real good thread, like Superior or Aurifil. I have had no troubles with either of these threads. Your Connecting Thread is ok for general sewing. Best of good wishes.

. Take a look at the Juki 40166729. I had the same problem and it has a spring and solved the problem for me.

I was having the same type of problems with a generic ruler foot on my Janome machine and getting very frustrated LOL. I then purchased the Janome brand ruler foot. No more problems. Hope this helps along with the other suggestions
    you have received.
