QUILTING & YARD SALES
#31
Love Yard sales, and when you bring your stash home, it is like Christmas. I particularly love finding someone elses UFOs and pieces, because you can think of where you want to put them when you finish them. My DH doesn't even mind anymore since I had used up a lot of my stash over the last few years and haven't recooped it yet. LOL

Same here, but I think I'll put that on my list of things to do. Maybe I can be as lucky. I have bought at goodwill on dollar day, shirts, skirts, etc. that was made from the perfect fabric for something I was planning. Another shopper asked what size are you looking for, I said the biggest that is made of a fabric I like. She thought I was crazy. Maybe I am, but HAPPY being so.
ditto here also...never been that lucky

i love yard sales, thrift stores, anywhere i can get fabric cheap....i just to do the 'burn' test on the fabric, and the cottons go to the quilting pile, and the blends go to the other pile (still can be used for all sorts of things!!)....yard sales are the best friend a quilter has.....

If you need it, you will find it at a garage/yard sale!

With the state of the economy with prices going up and the quanity packaging going down, we quilters have to go back to the depression years and learn a lesson. I don't recall any garage sales back then, but I do remember friends exchanging clothing that still had some useable fabric and scraps, even the smallest ones. I also remember a shortage of sewing thread. Rather than cutting off the end of a needle full of thread, the ladies in my mother's quilting club would make a knot that would pull through the fabric and end up somewhere in the batting by tying the end of the sewing thread to the free end off the spool. Some ladies even quilted off the spool for a whole block, then did the tying as the stitching got too long to pull any more thread through.
Were those the "Good old Days." I really don't remember, I was born in 1928 so was too young to realize whether they were good times or bad times.
I am making up a box of small scraps (less than 4 inches). If anyone is interested, I will mail them for the price of the postage.
Send PM to me. First come, first serve.

I try to hit estate sales or "Mother going to nursing home sale" The Savation Army store. Then, in the RV park we are in during the winter, peopleknow that I make charity quilt and they bring me their stuff.. I must live to 150 years in order to use my stash in two homes
