Default quilts with borders on only three sides -

In some ways - if one only uses a quilt on a particular bed - and only with the borderless side towards the "head" of the bed - it seems to make sense to only put three borders on a quilt.

How many people do that? (Instead of the usual/customary borders on all four sides?)

I haven’t done it but it makes perfect sense to me.

I have done this before. It keeps the design alll the way up to and under the pillows

I was thinking the same thought for my bed quilt. Why add a border that won't be seen?

I think that used to be pretty common "back in the day". As well as putting on a beard protector, a piece of fabric over the top edge (usually a thin muslin, to protect the fabric from the coarse beard/grease and not the beard from the fabric!).

The only real downside is it definitely makes the quilt directional, but sometimes that can be a good thing. You ever have the does the quilt go this way or that way on an almost square one?

More than once I've debated which way is the better way to put that blanket/cover/quilt/spread on the bed because it was almost square!

I like to rotate the quilts on my bed and just like the look of all 4 sides.

Exactly the same with me. That's one reason I almost always make square quilts.
