Quilts for Kids quilt kit - - I need to wash first right?

I would not pre-wash any cut fabrics, due to fear of shrinkage, fraying, warping...I washed a quilt top on delicate cycle and largest load setting. Fraying was terrible...so bad that I had to re-sew ALL of the honeybun strips.
If they were not cut pieces, yes, I would go ahead and wash.

the quilts for kids (instructions) state to put the quilt together, quilted and bound by machine- then wash it- then return it to them- so, wait until you have it finished to wash it- that is the way they expect them to be done.

Thanks for all of your replies. I will probably sew it all together and then wash. It just seems strange because its the opposite of what I normally would do. But I have never had a kit before
