    Default quilts as tablecloths

I made a crazy quilt top and want to use it as a tablecloth. The house where I went to a quilting retreat had one, topped with glass to keep it clean. My top is backed, but has no batting. My husband is going to order the glass for our table, but has concerns about the glass sliding off the tablecloth. Have any of you used your quilts as tablecloths, or seen them used that way? Are there any special precautions we need to take to ensure the glass does not slide off the table? I painted my dining room to match my new tablecloth and really want to use it. Advice, please.

I buy medium weight clear plastic at Joann's to cover my eating/crafting tables. Keeps everything clean and much less expensive than having custom glass cut. I did the glass thing once and it did get knocked off the table.

Tuckyquilter, how large does the plastic at Jo-Ann's run? My DR table is 54" round.

you could put something like those knobbies on your kitchen cabinets to keep them from banging on the back/bottom of the glass to keep it from sliding. my neighbor crocheted a wonderful tablecloth and that is what she did... it's worked very well.

A table sized piece of glass is really heavy. I wouldn't think it would be prone to sliding off, particularly if your quilt top is not real puffy.

I always have a quilted tablecloth on my table now. I no longer cover them with plastic. I made them to be used & they wash beautifully.

My $ store has little clear rubber dots for sticking on the back of furniture and picture frames? I stuck some to the plexiglass that sits on top of my counter. It gives a little breathing room and keeps it from sliding.

I use quilts on the table every so often. I just expect them to get a little dirty and they go in the wash. Just glad to have them out of the cedar chest and find a good use.

This is what I was thinking of also. Very inexpensive and if the tablecloth has a drop, it's going to get dirty anyway. I would want a little air for the cloth to breathe.

When my daughter bought her Dining room Table she had a piece of glass cut for it. She has 2 children and they eat every meal at that table. The glass has never moved.
