You've been given very good advice already.
I will add one more possibility - camouflage is really popular with my guys - both teen and adult. I did a camo style patch quilt for one with randomly placed various shades of olive green, celery green, tan, taupe, cream. It was very quick and easy. He loved it at 10 or so and still does several years later.

Blues, Browns, grays all work well for masculine quilts, stripes geometric shapes and solids. For simple quick patterns think of square in a square, rectangle subway tile style and bento box patterns.

I like all of the suggestions. One I would add is a big block quilt since you don't have much time left for this project. It will go together very fast and look great on the bed. Here are two that have a modern look, but also look good using plaids and stripes. http://www.nancyzieman.com/blog/quic...-quick-quilts/ and http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/quilt-...ig-block-style

Again, thanks for all the good advice. I am leaning towards not using a focus fabric and just doing bright colors in either checkerboard or the fake chevron design someone sent.

I have gained many ideas just for myself too!

Thanks again.

For a quick quilt, I like a big chevron quilt (first link), and I love to use a panel in a quilt and put several borders on it (second link).

Both are easy to make. The other pattern that I use for a quick quilt top is a checkerboard pattern.

Two fabrics, strip pieced and then cut to make rows for a quilt. I usually add at least one border to the checkerboard quilt.

For younger teenage boys, even Batman is great. Lego. You can use theme fabric, or not. My son (almoast 18) just chose some Dr. Who fabric (they were curtains I bought at a second-hand shop) and other coordinating blues to make myself a quilt with.

Teen boys DO like their very own quilts. Camo fabric and other "nonflowery" fabrics would be great. Mine made his own in 2014 and it looks like this - but it is hard to be specific with these prints for a kid you don't know.

My son loved his quilt which was Simle blocks and black background with, purples, reds , blues and a dark vibrant cerise. All just plain fabrics.

I have seven grandsons that are big gentle guys, but they would fight you in a second if you tried to take their quilts. This is a great place to use outdoorsy panels, shirting fabrics, old jeans, and boy prints of cars, planes, trains, etc. The possibilities are endless. Just have fun with it.

I have 2 DGSs. Made #1 a graduation quilt. Will start on #2's in Jan., as he graduates in 2016. I know boys are soooo hard to make/give gifts to, so I used stars in their quilts...
