I was thinking DWR might work, as each ring could be shades of purple on one and shades of orange for the other and then a w-o-w for the melons and centers. Would this work, ya think? I really think it's only gonna "work" if the colors were seperated like that instead of together like in a rail fence. I don't wanna use sashing to keep em apart either. I have searched here and all over the net but can't find purple and orange together in a quilt without black(halloween) or just the 2 of them. I suggested a green or yellow based of the color wheel and she said nope, just white but only if you must. gah!! help..???

I think you are right about separating the colors!

Dark rich purple and a redish-orange two color quilt?
    Big patterns?
Big 8 pointed stars on a tone-on-tone background?
    or an irish chain?
I don't think putting white with it, would be anything but distracting? Well, perhaps not - considering 1/3 of each color in a scrappy quilt?
OR big purple stars and big orange stars on a white background,
(Are they school colors? Look at the school stuff.)

Maybe a pineapple quilt? Use lots of different values of the orange and purple.

Or maybe a strip quilt using strip sets of light to dark of each color. Then cut into triangles and stitch together. An old book called Strips that sizzle has great ideas for this type of quilt.

Or play with a strip tube ruler.

I think the most important question to ask to receipient is the brightness level they want. I personally would do a google image search of purple + orange quilts.

    Have fun.

Same thing popped into my mind immediately, but I'm no help since I'm a Gamecock fan. As my 5 year old daughter said one day when she saw some Clemson merchandise at the store "momma, I can't even LOOK at it" hahaha

Have you considered the "two" color patterns? such as night & day by Eleanor Burns or Oriens Star also by Eleanor Burns-it uses just a smidgeon of white. Good luck. I would guess the question is how much work do you want to put into it. I personally would not use D9P. I do like the idea of batiks. Have fun!

I found this quilt which looks like a log cabin variation.

Try looking at some oriental fabrics for ideas how to use the two colors together. I lived in Japan for a time and brought home a kimono that is primarily purple, orange and red chrysanthemums on a white ground, and it's drop-dead gorgeous!

Also consider using those colors in varying intensities. Just a bit of deep purple and red, shading to lilacs and rose or pinks could be breathtaking.

Hope we get to see it when it's finished!
