    I love the second picture with the shoes in the middle & the white blocks. The shoes really pop. I don't think I would add too many other colors. Maybe a few light pastels.

    I think the black is too overpowering in the large blocks or the full borders. I think pattern 2 is the best for showing off the shoes to advantage.
    I would use white except for a row of alternating teal and purple squares between the big shoes and the small shoe print. Like bearisgray did, but without the red; having more white lets the shoe blocks stand out. If you want the black, I'd make a narrower, perhaps 5", border between the center panel and the leopard border.
