Maybe someones DH knows whether there is any other difference in those pedals??

When I bought my Janome 4900 a few years ago I took one look at the plastic foot pedal and asked the dealer if I could get a nice solid metal one instead. They said it was a downgrade but they'd do it for me. I don't regret it one bit. I love my metal foot pedal and would not change it for anything.
It still likes to take a tour of the carpet under the table sometimes but not so often now that it's on a piece of rubbery vinyl.

Is like all the Janome's I have owned. I put velcro (the loopy part) on the long strip at the top to keep it from sliding. Is easier on your legs than a bigger one. However, You could put it on a larger wood platform if that would help.

That size foot pedal seems about right to me, it's the same as the one I have on my Janome 4000. I put mine over the rubberized mesh shelf pads to keep from chasing it across the floor, so that helps a little. With that much size difference, you will get used to the difference in size.
