Default Really stiff backing Please help

And I mean REALLY STIFF. Even after washing. Any suggestions what to do? 108" backing. Thought about cutting into large squares with other fab to make scrappy backs to soften it up. White swirls tone on tone.

Is it made of cotton? Try washing it a couple of times, in warmer water? I have had some quilts that were stiffer....but did soften up after a few more washes.

Repurpose! use it down the line. I can think of projects that I wanted stiff fabric. You won't be happy with stiff back on your quilt...

I just googled "soften stiff fabric". One of the suggestions was to soak with vinegar and wash with warm water. Another suggestion was to soak with baking/washing soda. Another was to use dryer balls.

try all of the above. strange but it clearly wasn't meant for quilts. or shouldn't have been. Good luck.
