Even the Jo-Ann Legacy muslin shrank about two inches per yard for me.
A roc-lon tea-dyed "pre-shrunk: - at least that's what the label on the end of the bolt said - shrank drastically for me.
From my experience - measuring hundreds of pieces of fabric "before and after" - most cottons will shrink mostly in one direction.
I have not been able to guess ahead of time which way that will be.

I guess once I cut it all into pieces, sew it back together, quilt it with cotton batting and wash it again, I don't notice any shrinkage. I like the crinkled look. I also guess I am not a stickler for a size and so far nothing has gone amiss with my system, Of course there is always that next quilt...
